About the Spa
Island Retreat, a Medical Spa, is nestled in the charming picturesque coastal community of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. It is located just ten minutes from historic Newport in the Old Almy landmark. Under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Hummel and Licensed Aesthetician, Alicia Bjornson, Island Retreat provides a wide range of advanced skin care and laser treatments in a medical setting and successfully treats the concerns of both young and mature women and men. After a private and complimentary consultation, recommendations for the most appropriate treatment are made to ensure the most effective results.
The way you feel about your personal appearance has a strong impact – good or bad – on the way you feel emotionally. The spa’s mission is to provide medical-grade procedures that help make you feel and look your best. No matter what the age, healthy skin is a big factor in a happy and confident life!
Alicia Bjornson, L.M.E.
Alicia Bjornson is a graduate of Framingham State University with a B.S. in Clothing and Textile Design. While a student, she worked for Cherry & Webb, selling Este Lauder, Lancome, and Elizabeth Arden, where she developed an interest and love for creating and maintaining beautiful skin. After graduation, Alicia worked for a company that designed exclusively for Victoria’s Secret until she had children.
With the demands of work and travel with young children, she decided to go back to school. She has since worked for a plastic surgeon, and another large medical spa for over 17 years, and has been certified and trained on more than ten different lasers including Candela, Syneeron, Cutera, Palomar, Cynosure and Zerona.
Each procedure and product has been carefully selected based on tried and true experience. Her dream for Island Retreat is to bring her passion for fabulous skin to others and peace and tranquility to all who walk through the door.
